Interesting Holiday Retail Data

Casey BartoNow that the food coma from Thanksgiving has worn off, many consumers are beginning today by heading out to stock up on Black Friday deals.
In the spirit of the biggest shopping day of the year, I’d like to share some interesting holiday retail stats.
Let’s start with some Black Friday data.
While 34 percent of shoppers will shop online and in-store today, 45 percent said they’d rather avoid the crush and not shop at all.

According to a recent Shop.org survey, 84 percent of retailers plan to send emails alerting customers to Black Friday sales, up from 80 percent last year.

Over 90 percent of online retailers will have some kind of deal in place this weekend (so check your email.)

On Cyber Monday, 78 percent of online retailers will offer discounts and coupons. According to Internet Retailer, “Nearly 38% will employ limited-time discounts. 30%, meanwhile, will offer free standard shipping, albeit with unspecified conditions, while 15% will trot out free gifts with purchases.”

On the mobile side of things, Mobile Commerce Daily reports that nearly 60 million consumers will use their mobile devices to help make decisions on and purchase gifts this weekend.

The National Retail Federation is forecasting holiday sales will increase 2.8 percent this year.

Will you be taking advantage of the deals this weekend? Let us know about your shopping experiences in the comments below!
