About The Lunch Pail

What’s the difference between a lunch pail and a lunch box? A lunch box is what a kid takes his peanut butter and jelly sandwich to school in. It’s adorned with some Disney character’s image, and has a matching thermos.

A lunch pail is far different. It’s venerable, enduring. It’s what a steel worker or a warehouse foreman, takes to work every day. It wears well-earned scars from years of working hard. For us, it’s become an idea. It stands for something. It says less about what we do, but rather who we are and where we do it. And for a blog, or a company, that’s not necessarily a bad place to start.

Knotice is headquartered in Akron, OH (with offices in Seattle too.)

Akron’s the home of the The Black Keys and LeBron James. Past contributions to society include AA and the Goodyear Blimp. For a long time, everything in this town revolved around rubber. B.F. Goodrich, Firestone, General Tire and Goodyear were each based in Akron. It was the Rubber City Capital of the World. Now, only Goodyear’s headquarters remain, along with a bunch of old buildings, one of which we call home.

We like that we work in an old tire factory. The HVAC system stinks, but other than our office being too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, it’s fine. Sometimes I wonder what Knotice would be like if it was in the standard cookie-cutter corporate park. My guess is that we’d be a bit different. It’s tough to work in the shadows of smokestacks and not take on a roll-up-your-sleeves work ethic.

That’s what the Lunch Pail means. It’s the belief that hard work yields high reward. It’s about combining passion with a strong desire for success. It’s staying late to get the job done the right way. For us, it’s about investing that Lunch Pail approach in the success of our clients, and the success of this company.

I hope you enjoy this blog.

We’ll post something new three times a week: on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Hopefully, that takes some of the mystery out of “did they update their blog yet, or not?”

Please comment and let us know what you think. We’re interested in what you have to say.
